Choosing a Charter Service

What should I look for in a charter service before booking?
Not all charter services are equal. Captain Joe recommends you take your time to research your charter service up front before you book it. Some things to beware of when booking your charter:

Planning Your Charter

What if I don't know the first thing about fishing?
Not to worry! By the time you're trip is done, you'll have a very good understanding of saltwater angling.

Do I need my own pole and bait? What do I need to bring?
Absolutely not! Sara Star supplies everything -- from light-weight bait poles and casting rods to heavy-bottom trolling rods to bait. The bait is even suitable for human consumption.

Captain Joe encourages you to bring what you feel will make you comfortable. Clients are welcome to bring their own beverages (including beer, wine) and food such as sandwiches. If you bring your own cooler for food, you can then fill it up with fish!

Can I keep the fish I catch?
You may keep all your own fish as long as they are of legal size and limits.

What if I have more people than the Coral Rose can handle?
Captain Joe will sub-contract with other boats that are of the same size and capacity. You may put six passengers on each. Sara Star has hosted parties of 25-30 with six different boats involved. We'll keep it interesting and compete across boats as if we were in a tournament.

Is your charter family friendly?
Yes. The rails on the Coral Rose are high enough so children are safe and don't have to worry about falling overboard. We have light-weight gear for kids, plenty of snacks, two sinks with hot water, and an electric flush toilet. Life jackets are available for all passengers. Take a look at some of our pictures to see families in action.

Do you provide any food during the charter?
Sara Star provides light snacks such as chips, pretzels, granola bars, and fruit. Soft drinks and water are also available.

Pricing and Payment

Do I need to give a down payment?
For single boat charters, a 25% deposit is required. Payment is made in full after the completion of the charter. For charters that require more than one boat, a 25% deposit is also required. In addition, Captain Joe will send out a contract for completion prior to the charter.

What is your cancellation policy
Cancellations are accepted up to 2 weeks prior to your charter. If you cancel within two weeks of your charter date, your deposit is non-refundable.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Mastercard, Visa, personal check, or cash. For credit card payments, a 4% service charge will also apply. A $25 handling fee will be charged for returned checks.

Are charters cancelled if the weather is bad?
Yes. If there are weather concerns, Captain Joe will call you ahead of the charter start time. You may also contact Captain Joe to inquire directly.

Do you filet the fish? If so, is there an extra charge for this?
Captain Joe will filet your fish while you wait for no extra charge. All filets are bagged and iced. You should bring a cooler with you to take your fish home in.
